    Hi Guys,
Need some help on 7 seaters.

I am considering buying an 09 7 seater, here is what I am thinking about, let me know your thoughts

    1. Quasqi + 2. I am wondering is a 1.5 litre engine big enough and whether there is any real room in this car.

    2. Ford S max, Ford Grand C max or something, not sure what the difference between these cars is,

    3. SEAT Alhambra

    4. Hyundai Santa Fw

broad list here so hoping to narrow it down a bit

    thanks
    Reg

If you have kids in the last row of seats look at the crumple zone in back.

They shouldn't be sitting between rear wheels and back bumper.

Rear seats in these locations while legal are unsafe.

    Do you need 7 seats?

I bought a Honda FR-V recently as I was worried about kids in the rearmost seats. Its a 6 seater, but 6 full size seats. Still have a decent boot, and no-one sitting 2 inches from a rear end crash.

Remember that in 7 seaters the rear 2 seats are often tiny and cramped, and suitable only for kids.

Plus a lot of 7 seaters are quite long, the FR-V is still quite compact.

Strongly recommend the S-Max. We imported in 09 and are very happy with it. Had some issues this year, locks mainly, that I fixed myself from e-bay and Traynor's but other than that its done well.

Loads of space and drives very well too. Recommend the 2.0 TDI. 2 good fold down seats in rear and still good bit of room behind them that will comfortably take buggy and/or shopping. 3 full sized middle seats with ISOFIX on outer one's - could be 3 x ISOFIX on newer models. Have got 700 miles from a full tank on long drives, Dublin - Kerry etc... big tank; circa €90 to fill currently.

    Hi
I was in the same boat as well recently, I looked at allot of options and as my budget was limited I had to rule the smax out even though its a lovely car.
In the end it came down to Grand Picasso or the FRV. I found the FRV's boot was too small even with seats pulled forward.
In the end I purchased a 08 Grand Picasso 1.6hdi with a full service history privately. Most of the ones I saw from dealers where terrible and poor service historys with them.

I'm just back from Donegal from a weeks holidays and found the car fantastic. It's a little noisy at motorway speeds as it revs quite high but this is comparing it to a 2 litre mondeo diesel. It's essential though the Grand Picasso engine is cared for and correct oil is used, as well as giving it a good spin quite often.

I'm just using the 3 seats and have no real intention to use the rear ones maybe for friends from school etc but that would be it.

Some cars have the final row just inches.from the rear window which I really don't like the idea of.

Off topic slightly, but with the Tesla Model S, if the two additional seats in the boot are ordered as an optional extra, a stronger rear crash structure is also fitted to protect the rear seat passengers. Higher acceleration forces all around in the event of a crash, but less intrusion.

Don't know about the telsa but I'm thinking of the opel zafira and the like who do have seats in the crumple zone.
Most cars vans jeeps the crumple zone in the rear is from the back bumper to the rear wheel.
This is fine for typical cars with 5 seats as all seats are between front and rear axles also the fuel tank has been moved out of this area as it posed too big a risk of rupturing in collision.

I think its worth looking at the bigger MPVs for this reason or just don't use the last row in the smaller MPVs
