    Hi all,

    I've just acquired a HP Z820 workstation with an AMD Firepro V5900 2GB graphics card and 16GB RAM. It's got 2x 8 core Xeon E5-2643 running at 3.30Ghz.

    I have an older desktop core2duo pc which has a Sapphire 1GB GRRD5 HD AMD Radeon 6870 graphics card.

    Is it worth my while using the Sapphire card in the Z820 or am I mad? Should I just keep the firepro card in it? Is it far superior? I do game occasionally but not much at all. Am I likely to be able to Play GTA5 on the z820 with the firepro card?

    I want to sell the old PC so am wondering if I should just sell it with the sapphire card?

    I would imagine the 5900 is as fast or faster than the 6870, the 4 series below that was equal to 66/67xx cards.

    the V5900 is worth a lot more though, so you could just sell that and use your 6870 which stills performs OK.

    Will you be using the PC for gaming or will you being doing graphical work on it too ? If the pc is going to be used for purely gaming I would nearly suggest selling both cards and getting something more powerful . What resolution monitor have you got for the pc ?

    @ TerrorFirmer - cheers for the advice mate!

    @ smileyj18 - Monitor is HP ZR2440w LED Backlit IPS = 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz; WUXGA. The machine is not primarily used for gaming but not a lot of graphical work either :)

    have to ask what is the purpose of the workstation if you aren't doing much graphical work,

    To be honest, will mostly be using it for encoding dvd's, watching movies, browsing the web, some office work. NO CAD or major gaming. I realise it is overkill for this stuff. However I would like to be able to try out the odd game now and then though, such as GTA5.

    Be interesting to see how quickly handbrake gets through a dvd using all 16 threads!

    On the Windows Experience index...
    6870 = 7.8
    5900 = 7.2

    I think I'm leaning towards the 6870 card :)
