Crash Repairs Cork?

    Hi all,

Unfortunately I was recently involved in a crash and the car was deemed a "financial write off" because both airbags went off.

However, I have been advised due to the condition of the car etc that if I could get second hand parts (bumper/bonnet/airbags) that it would be worth repairing instead of scrapping, which I am in favour of doing.

Can anybody recommend a good crash repairs place in Cork? Or estimate how much would be the standard charge for getting airbags replaced after a crash?

Hopefully this is in the right place, if not could a modorator please move it?

    Thanks!

Both airbags? You need a dash, wheel, body sensors and a module. Then theres the job of fitting it, a right pig. Belts may have pre tensioners, might need replacing too

    Sure its still worth it?

Thanks for the reply, I wouldnt have much of a clue to be honest!

I found one dismanler who had the parts (its a 2004 Honda Civic Saloon) and said he'd sell me the airbags for €300 (i think they are about €2000 new..) I just assumed that would include all the bits needed, not sure about sensors etc now,ill have to call him and check tomorrow!

I think it is worth it, I know its a 9 year old car but the engine is perfect and the mileage is very low..plus kind of attached to it.

One crash repairs place said just scrap it but ive heard they only like to deal with new parts paid for by insurance companies...another i spoke to said even if it cost up to 2000 to fix it would still be worth it so im not sure.

Is fitting the airbags etc realy that bad??

I don't think it's worth it. Think of the work that has to go in

Think of the parts that have to be replaced. The care that has to go in to replace them

Plus if the crash was that bad the bags went off the shell is more than likely bent in some way. At the very least the crossmember will be crooked

Using some cars of mine as an example to replace the bags alone...

Note: no bags replaced there an entirely different task that requires a similar amount of work

It's entirely up to you what you want to do but I enjoy tearing and ripping cars as a passtime. But I certainly wouldn't repair one that's had the bags out, not worth it
