I used to use beeradvocate actively, but I think I look at ratebeer now from time to time to get a general idea of a beer's reputation, if it's one I know nothing about. I like it because it has an 'overall' rating and rating for the style. Either way, I try not to use it too much because I reckon a beer's reputation online can influence people's opinions, for better or for worse.

Ratebeer has a pretty decent app, you can scan a barcode and access the beers reviews immediately

Ive been keeping track of it in my head for years but now head is full :) time to document. this may involve revisiting many many many beers.

what triggered it for me is clothworthy dobbin. had it a few years ago and didnt rate it much . had it last week and impressed. ive been mad on hops for a long time but think i might go all malty for a while.

I use ratebeer for offline rating on my phone but often don't bother with posting them online because I can't always be bothered to write the review.

It would be nice to be able to post a rating without having to write the blurb

No doubt others do it too, but Untappd allows you to 'check in' a beer, and the option of a rating out of 5 and/or a review.

You can 'tick' based on 1-5 stars, but you cant do any of the fancy data collation stuff on your 'ticks'. I think the tasting notes are mandatory to keep the data in the database up to a decent standard. Not sure a rating without any notes is worth much anyway.

I use Untappd to "tick" my beers, don't really use it for reviews though.

I sometimes check beer advocate or ratebeer on the fly if I'm in a shop and spot something I don't recognise. I used to just grab stuff if it was new but after a few bad experiences I like to at least know the basics about a beer before dropping money on it.

I don't use them but I know ratebeer has a pretty consistent Irish scene with Irish raters looking to outdo each other and get more ticks. It means that Irish beers are always updated.
