My father bought a second hand car in November 2010. Before even taxing it, he fell and broke his hip . He never drove again and unfortunately has since passed away. Due to change in my work I need a car now, what are my options in getting the reg. cert? (it was imported from the north, and VRT paid and southern number issued)

Was the car ever taxed down here, do you have a registration cert for it?

    Looks like this

    Sorry for your loss OP

Another question to consider.. what's happened to the car since it was bought? Has it been driven at all or left sitting idle as 3 years later it'll probably need work before it'll be usable (oil changes, possibly new tyres etc - others will no doubt give a full list)

What kind of car is it?

Hi all, probably could have explained more clearly. The car was never taxed down here, so no registration cert. Probate etc. is not a problem. It gets started now and then, but is showing ABS lights on the dash now, and a warning to check brake pads. Its an 02 Golf diesel. To be honest, had no taste for it at the time, or would have done something with it sooner. Do I just get the application form for a manual taxing, and one of those 150 forms for a Guard to sign? Local Guard would know when the Father passed away, as I got traffic cones from him for the funeral, so he should be OK to sign, despite the fact the car is imported 3 years ago.
