i am aware of this page on the gui site for registered golf societies:

    http://www.gui.ie/home/playing-golf/golf-societies.aspx

There are about 160 odd societies on it, but i know that this only scratches the surface. in the galway section, where i am from, there are only a handful of societies mentioned. off the top of my head i can think of another dozen or so that aren't even mentioned. does anyone know of, or have, a more comprehensive list of golf societies in ireland? there has to be hundreds more out there

Very doubtful that you'll find a comprehensive list out there. There's a company that specialises in making bookings for societies/groups. (Forget the name of the company at present, someone on here might know it)
They might be your best bet to get another big list of golf societies but you'll still be scratching the surface I'd say.

Edit: mygolfsociety dot ie is the name of that co.

Many pubs or companies have golf societies and there's no register.

would it be possible for everyone here to come up with a few? i know that nearly every golf club would have a few annual trips away but i'd say if we all put our heads together then we'd easily come up with a list 2-300 pub/work/town/village/club golf societites.

here's a few that i can think of just off the top of my head:

    galway

    annaghdown golf society
    medtronic g.s.
    corribb g.s.
    moycullen g.s.
    boston scientific g.s.
    the office bar, salthill
    wards bar, salthill
    barna gaa
    spinnaker ladies, salthill
    corribb ladies golf soc, oughterard
    ballinderreen golf soc, kiltartan
    bridge bar, tuam
    the huntsman bar, galway
    castlegar g.s.
    renmore g.s.
    maree g.s., oranmore
    blazers g.s., craughwell
    mountbellew g.s.
    sheridans bar, knocknacarra
    oranmore g.s.
    menlo park g.s.

thats 20 just off the top of my head without thinking...anyone got anything else to add to the list?

I didn't think you were looking for the individual details of each society (which they're not going to give you).
They would probably give you a rough estimate as to how many societies are out there (on their books) and might give you the name and location of a society without passing on contact details.

I thought you were looking for a rough estimate of how many golf societies are out there, but it seems you are looking for a list of every society (or as many as possible) that exist.

    One question.... Why?
If every poster on here remembered every society they have ever heard off, and posted it for you, you'd probably still be missing more than half of them.

i work in a golf course so i am just trying to build up as big a list of societies as i can that we can make an offer to for the coming year. i am aware of mygolfsociety. there is no chance of them sharing their list. that is something they have built up themselves. they act as an intermediary between the society and the golf club. we tried them years ago and it didnt work out. they made a lot of promises to us but delivered no one. i believe they are running a better business these days, but you can't beat dealing with the society directly yourself and chasing down the business.

i know you'd never get a list of all of them, but as i said before, a list of 2-300 wouldn't take much effort.

Your main customers will come from a 50 mile radius (probably less) so all you need to do is to focus on them. Most societies use local courses apart from special occasions.

I would start by contacting all the pubs in a 20 mile radius to see if they have societies.

    Also try the bigger companies.

What's the benefit of registering as a society via the GUI?

My stuff for sale on Adverts inc. outdoor furniture, roof box and EDDI

I have to say that this is good advice! Maybe thinking too big at the moment!

A pure guess but I'd say that there were probably benefits in the past, that are redundant in todays golfing market like:
Reduced green fees for a GUI society, or
Clubs only allowing registered societies to play
They wouldn't come into the equation now, but maybe it was back in the "good times"

It's only €45 to register p.a so I can't imagine you get much for that.

Pretty sure that affiliated societies can submit cards for handicap purposes, unaffiliated can't.

Open to corrections on that though?
