Car clipped outside house

I woke up this morning to find the rear right hand side of my car clipped.
It's on street parking. So I'm guessing its to be expected.

What I'm trying to figure out is what this white stuff that was smeared all over the various scratchs and marks is??

    Image attached.

It doesnt really look like it was hit by a passing vehicle to be honest.

Weird one. Your bumper is a totally different colour to the car,the bumper looks like it was attacked by something yet there isn't a single mark on the paint on the car.

Is that the original bumper OP ?

because it certainly doesnt appear like it. ever had a previous repair done ?

Looks like someone replaced your bumper with their ****e one.

Was the smeary marks there before? Kind of look like cast off from the wheels. The black mark is pretty high for a bumper of a car. Maybe a van.

Hmmm.. Try to polish out what you can, and see what remains.

    Sickener. :(

It looks like another car scrapped off your car as they were moving out from parking.I scrapped my car off a wall and it left similar damage to your car.

+1 Might be the lighting from the snap, but the colour doesn't look matched at all.

Those marks don't look like a car scrapped of it,there are marks up high on the bmuper, down low where it curves in and also around the back, plus there are no marks on the tyre/hubcap or car body.

    OP here.

I think it's just the lighting in the photo. Colour looks fine in real life. Bumper is original.

Only had the car washed a few days ago. So there were no marks or smears .

Was thinking myself the marks are a bit low for a car.

The council were painting white lines on the road this morning. Wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Just trying to figure out what the white smear marks are. Looks like someone purposely rubbed it on.

Can't really tell how similar but I've been puzzled before with marks like that on my car. Until I figured out that my very large, very wet and very muddy dog ran into it chasing a cat.

Although if the council was painting white lines on the road I wouldn't be overly surprised if some oaf was trying to be helpful wiping paint of your car with a dirty rag or something.

Is it just the marks or are there scratches as well?

White smears could be a result of a half-arsed attempt to remove the black ones. T-cut, or even Cif perhaps...? What does it smell like? :D

It's really badly scratched. The bumper has come off its mounts. It's not sitting right at all. The rear light is also loose. So it must of got a good knock.

Im honestly having difficulty believing the bumper is original Your car looks silver and that looks more like an estoril blue or baby blueesuqe colour.

But as you say could be the angle of the image.

Could it have been one of these ?

Can't smell anything of it. It's dusty/ chalky in texture.

    Might be Cif

OP how about another picture from a daylight perspective with no flash.

There's no way that bumper is the same colour as the rest of the car!

Could it have been some kid on one of peddle toys that crashed against it?

    Like a rubbing/polishing compound?

Bumpers are soft and if someone hits it pretty hard it can be pushed in/dislodged and get odd markings. When they move off it can pop out again. This a just a guess mind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,192 ✭✭✭HungryJoey

Them bumpers are definitely different colours.

Looks like it was replaced with one that has been dragged around a scrapyard!

Would it have been a neighbour ?
Then felt a bit guilty and had a quick go at removing it ?

This is waht I'm thinking too.
When plastic bumbers hit they deform oddly before poping back out and leave strange marks.

There is also the possibility someone tried to clean off their bumper paint from your car.

Looks like a motorbike/scooter might have slide on its side into it.

    That's exactly what I thought.

Don't know, but looks like a completely different bumper to me. The Bumper looks light blue vs silver car body

that bumper was scraped with the front wheel of a 4x4 tractor

that bumper doesn't belong to that car
