Insulated Foundation systems

I've read various posts discussing the elimination of cold bridging at the inner leaf of cavity walls (and even internal dividing walls). The use of AAC blocks is one method to minimize cold bridging at the floor\wall junction.

If an insulated foundation is installed (which would isolate the inner leaf from the foundation), is the AAC block still necessary?

Edge\perimeter insulation - I think this is a regs. requirement?
If an insulated foundation was used, would this strip be a surplus addition? Note, I'm not going to contravene regulations here, but I imagine if it is required only to insulate screed from wall, then its technically unnecessary (might be useful as an expansion joint for the screed maybe).

Anyone installed an insulated foundation? Any cracking or other issues to report?

My engineer has yet to be consulted on any of the above, but this will happen in due course.

We put in a Supergrund insulated foundation, and so far no cracks or any other problems, though the house is pretty new.

Used thermal blocks (alphatherm, no longer available) on inner leaf, both to reduce cold bridge to founds, and for better decrement delay.

Will soon be passing first winter in house, and will see then how insulation etc. works out.

Thanks Eoghan. Did you self install the Supergrund or is that even a possibility?

Had word back from my engineer and unfortunately he has not worked with insulated foundations before. That'll might affect his ability\willingness to sign off on such a system, but will see how it goes.

Yes, put it in myself. It was straightforward enough, the guy from the company (Aerobord) came out and showed me how to do it.
