I like it, but then I would. :D Though I find the minute hand just a little short design wise.

This is a 'nearly there' watch IMO. I love the case and strap and hour/minute hands, but don't like the font of the 1-12 numbers, the second hand and prefer a smaller Longines logo.

any others of similar style folks would recommend ?

This is the newer model. 41mm....love the Cathedral hands.

Am really struggling to find a white dial with sword or large hands for my dodgy peepers...

I love the vintage look..very clean and easy to read and a great price (2nd Hand)

A Brown strap on this watch would tick the boxes for me. Rubs chin....

It seems to be available on this site...but I don't know this site or how authentic they are.

Glycine Eugene Meylan may also be worth a look. May be cheaper but the placement of the sub-dial, on second thoughts, does have a little bit of the small movement syndrome about it.

Its nice, 42mm...any ideas who would sell the Glycine?

    The Gleeceen website has this

    HARNEY & GLYCINE DISTR. LTD.
    27 Eustace Street
    IE- DUBLIN 2
    Ireland

However to ensure that ripoff Ireland is dead and gone I'd contact a couple of UK retailers for a comparative price. I note that Neil from Chronomaster is on the list and is generally well thought of on TZ-UK - his site isn't showing the Eugene Meylan but I'd make contact as, apparently, he's a nice guy to deal with. When asking for UK quotes I wouldn't go out of your way to indicate that you're in Ireland just in case they decline to sell in somebody else's patch ;).

The Glycine is great and I can get it new, the Longines is used and about €300 cheaper....

I'd be interested to know what you've been quoted. There seem to be some reputable German Ebay sellers knocking them out at €900 but inviting a best offer and I imagine that list is a bit higher.

I much prefer this to the one in the OP. I've never been a fan of the cathedral hands.

Still cant read the small hands...am airing on the Glycine side, the dial is far brighter and the seconds dial is great

I like the thin blued hands, but I'm with DT on this, I'd prefer the cathedral hands. They're very easy to acquire and read though they're a Marmite choice, you either love em or hate em.

*Aside* Over a year ago when Zenith brought out their homage to their 1930 pilot watch I mused why didn't they or others bring out a near copy of the original of the species like below.

    omega_image.2001436.jpg

while looking through Longines new lineup in Trigger Happy's link above what do I see but this, their big crown avigation, only a near clone of the 1930's pattern(though again like the Longines Spirit Automatic in DT original post I feel the minute hand is too short).
    l2.777.4.53.2-1.jpg

Joke is, over the years of digging through books and the interwebs researching this design(no one seems to know who originated it), I never saw nor heard of a Longines example of this type. Odd given damn near everyone else made one in this pattern.

Still hope these catch on. It'll make me look less like an old fashioned steampunk hipster. :D

I would go with with a black dial white cathedral hand watch. It really improves the low light readability. Also I somehow feel that the Glycine might be better value for the money...

    Thanks for all the input...

I have decided to pull the Trigger on two watches

    One is the Precista PR9

    PrecistaPRS-9CzechAirForceManualWind2_zpsdee6e326.jpg

and the Second is the Glycine Eugene Meylan - White Dial

    glycine_meylan_3835_1_zps0e3d8e9d.jpg

Both have the retro look and great history behind the watches themselves

I will post more info and pics..

PS..thanks to Carlton Browne for pointing me in the direction of the Glycine

That Precista is bloody gorgeous DT. Those watches were really well and cos of their size look "modern".

Just a thought though... I dunno how much the Precista goes for but here's a link to an original of the species with the earlier pre WW2 movement to boot for around 1500 euro*. They normally go for much higher.

The Precista is £385 new, Was is not new but bought from a TZ-er

Would love an Original but...maybe next time,

Right now these 2 fit into my world and are an alternative to my PO (Which I love dearly and would never flip)

Tell me you went for a Eugene Meylan with the aged lume and not one of the newer ones with silver numerals. Please tell me you went for the aged lume.

Not silver numerals...got the one pic above with aged lume..

I am not a fan on the big Onion Crown, a great idea when flying a 30,000 feet with gloves on, but not for me in my Avensis !
