I would imagine once your benefit runs out it will change to assistance which is then means tested. Nearly all income coming into household will be subject to means testing and your assistance will be adjusted accordingly

thanks for the reply, if my spouse was earning around 50k how would that affect things?

You would be means tested and it would take into account your spouses earning, if she was making 50k, you would not be getting very much, nowhere near the 188 anyway.

The most a couple can get on JSA is €312pw + €29.80 each for any children

Well yes but that is if both spouses are not working which isn't the case here.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

It will probably mean your JSA payment will be very little and could even be zero

Even it is zero you should definitely sign on for PRSI credits because otherwise your future pension entitlements could be badly affected.

    Hi,

I am wondering if anyone could help me with a couple of queries?

    1. I am 6 months into my JB and have separated from my wife in the last week (I explained this in original JB claim 6 months ago that I was having personal problems and that is why I originally left my job). Obviously it is not an official separation yet but I am back living at home with my parents for now. Will I be able to claim JA in 3 months time without my wife's income been taking into account as we are now not living together? Or will my wife's income still be taking into account despite us not living together?
I understand I may get a home visit to establish this which is fine. Hopefully I will find work in the 3 months anyway.

    2. My parents are both getting state pensions so will that effect me getting my €188 a week on JA also?

So basically I am asking if my wife's income will still be taking into account on the means test despite us not living together now and also will my parents state pensions be taking into account also? Will I still get my €188 a week?

Thanks for any advice you can give.
