Hey there I'm trying to set up a tplink router for my sky broadband but when entering the details I don't know what to put into the username, password, vpi, vci and connection type.
Would really appreciate some advice please.

Extracting the username/password is one thing but has anyone successfully set up a non Sky (hub) router to connect to Sky BB? If so please tell more...

I have. I'm using my old Eircom router with Sky. You just go to your router's configuration page, put in the username, put in the password and then it'll connect after a minute or so.

For those of you who are trying this, let me know how you get on because the exact instructions didn't work for me, but I still managed to get the packet. Last week was my 3rd time trying it and it took 2 or 3 hours to get it, but the 3rd time, it took 10 -15 minutes.

As per the other thread there isnt any DSL on your line yet, you'll receive the sky hub just before that happens. Until then no modem will work.

I've checked the tracking on "my sky" and its says my phone line is active?

Doesn't mean the DSL port has been activated (thus the flashing).

Phone and broadband are two different things. You get phone service then broadband is added later. Right now its just phone. Sky will post you the modem a day or two before a technician adds the broadband. Till then there is diddly squat you can do.

You need your sky username and password anyway if you want to use a different modem than the sky hub and you need to have the hub first to extract them.

is there any advantage to using the eircom box instead of the sky hub?

I have tried both routers and ended up going back to the Sky hub. It's doesn't get hot like the eircom router and for me has been very solid with no restarts necessary. Only disadvantage is you can't change the settings on the Sky hub ie DNS.

Can we get any more details how to setup sky broadband on eircom/vodafone router (f.e. Zyxel or Netopia) ?

    Thanks
