Hi I've been rethinking my career choice recently (digital media sector) as its not really going in my favor at the moment. I think this is due to a number of reasons:
Im not sure that there is enough opportunities in Ireland for me but I cant move abroad. I look every day on job websites etc and only come across around one or two suitable jobs a month. Any ones Im interested in ask for around 5yrs experience!! I have a degree and I've done 2 unpaid internships so I really want a paid position and dont want to go back to college or do jobbridge.
I feel like I've tried everything at this stage so maybe I should just give up and just get any kind of job. Im doing some freelance work at the moment but getting paid pennies in bits and drabs!! :(
Is it best to just hang in there and hope the economy gets better or just cut my losses now and get a full time job in a more lucrative/ easily attained area.

Could you get an unrelated job and do a part time masters or something?

Thats not a bad idea actually April. I wasnt really in favour of going back to college but doing a masters part time while working might open up a few more doors for me.
    Thanks :)

That's very disheartening, maybe you could look for a job in a different area
but keep the freelance work going on the side. You might be able to utilise some of your skills in a job that is unrelated on the surface of it.

In one of my previous jobs they emphasied coding experience in the job spec.
I have some but it wouldn't be my forte. I was lucky enough to get the job and moulded it around my skills.

That employer also contributed towards several colleague's education some were studying things which I thought were not directly related.
One girl who was a developer got some study support from work to study librarianship.

So, I guess cast your net a bit wider and get into a paid role. Once you're financially secure you could look at studying part time or ramping up the freelance work to keep your skills current.

    Best of luck
