Where is Mr Right (for me)

So this is my story...I'm 34 and single...Ive had two long term relationships and I've dated guys for a few months too. But none of these have worked out. My dilemma is, where do single gals meet guys?
I have tried Internet dating and it just didn't work for me. I am not into clubs but would go out with friends to bars...but that is hard work! Please don't get me wrong, I like my own company and I'm very independent but I'm just at that stage, where it would be nice to clique with someone special. Most of friends are married or in stable relationships and don't tend to go out socialising much. I have joined clubs, a gym etc, for my own personal reasons (not to meet men) but even still, I haven't met any.
If anyone would like to share their experiences with me, that would be great. :)

There's an ODG forum on here (online dating group) - really supportive people. It's a private group but there's a link here in TLL to request access. I'd recommend joining in the chat there to discuss online again, it really is the best way to broaden your circle.

Thanks Athtrasna. I tried two different online dating sites. I met some scary people but in saying that, I did have a few nice dates too. They just weren't for me. I will look into the ODG though.

Hi Misstrouble, I have moved your thread to here, as it is a more suitable forum for your request. Best of luck :)

    Single guy here!

Where do single gals meet single guys? Everywhere!

There is no, one particular watering hole where we all hang out. Just keep your eyes open for someone and maybe try to talk to that person. It might take a leap of faith on your behalf to strike up a conversation but the rewards are there.

    Best of luck!

Haha, thanks for your reply. I know ye aren't all in the one spot! :) If only if were that simple.

Oh I have been keeping my eyes peeled, but no joy.
I have no issue with starting a conversation if I think the person seems nice/attractive. I'm a really chatty person and get on with lots of people. I don't want to seem desperate either, I'm not! But in the last year and a bit, I have had zero luck...Maybe this might be my year ;)

    That's the spirit :)

Keep optimistic anyway. If you have hobbies or interests, go along to those places where they do them. Chances are you will see someone there you already have something in common with and thats as good a start as anything.

Just dont do what I did, asked a girl out in Tesco that had been following me. Thought..this is promising.
Turned out to be a store detective!! ha ha. Was the last time I wore a tracksuit into Tesco!!

If you find out where they are all hiding OP let me know! Im not having much luck either. Tried Online dating but found a lot of timewasters. I could do with being a bit more forward I guess. I sometimes come across nice guys at the gym, maybe u could try that?

    Hi,
I actually asked one guy to meet up for a coffee/drink but he had a million reasons why he couldn't. Thought he liked me but guess I was wrong.

I work in a mainly female dominated job so there a very few opportunities to meet guys here.
If you have any suggestions please do share :-)

    Hey there
I am actually a member in a gym and the guys are nice. Made some friends but most are attached already.

I am a really chatty person and would have no hesitation in asking out a guy. Maybe thats my issue...too forward. Haha

Hey OP like most of us I'm sure you have hobbies and interests. Use them to engage with the general population. The more you socialise the greater chance you have of meeting that special someone. If you try to force these things it rarely works. Be relaxed and look to increase your social circle anyway and if you meet a nice guy and there is a mutual interest great. If not you have more friends. Be natural, be yourself and that way you won't seem desperate. Best wishes to you OP!

PS. Maybe you are already, but if not work on being content in your own skin and this will radiate out to others.

I've met guys in nightclubs, through friends, by falling off a fence at the Ploughing Championships, on a bus, on a plane, on a train, at work, on holiday (by falling off a bar - that was 6 years), getting laser eye surgery done, at a petrol station, on an escalator in Stephen's Green, at a funeral....just through life really...! I won't say any have been supereffective as I live on my own, but the ones that lasted I'm still in touch with - two from previous work, one I met in Coppers! (and when I say in touch I mean 20 times a day). Strangely the ones that didn't work were the ones through mutual friends as there was too much pressure, and literally three people in the relationship!

I was away with a friend the weekend and she is really outgoing (not bad myself) but even I could hear the desperation in her voice, so let them come to you. Engineer a meet up for sure, but don't appear desperate. I wouldn't ask someone out, but that's just me.

I think mine did pass me by... and I let it happen thinking foolishly at the time that I wasn't ready for the commitment and that someone else would come along in due course... which hasn't happened yet :( Not that I believe in the sentiment but looking back I have regrets.

I just believe in keeping the faith. Try not to have regrets...just learning experiences and hope not to make the same mistake twice :-)
