Best european place to visit in October?

I have 10 days off at the start of October. Yet to book anything, mainly because I'm so indecisive. We've done Barcelona, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Prague and Krakow. Don't want a sun holiday, but would prefer somewhere a bit sunny. Was thinking Istanbul, any opinions on what its like for a couple? And (probably a silly question) would it be safe with all that's going in Syria?

Any other suggestions on where would be good? Also willing to travel. A few days in different cities...

Istanbul is great, perhaps not for an entire 10 days in the city. Italy might well be warm in October and there are numerous places to visit.

It's so long since I have been to Istanbul that my experience is irrelevant.

I think you are better off going for a city break at that time of year, because you want options for days that might be cooler or rainy.

Lisbon might be worth considering, but I'm not sure if you would want to spend all of 10 days there. I imagine it would be easy enough to split your time with another centre in Portugal.

I went for Istanbul! Worked out quite cheap, and its a city I've always wanted to visit!
