Hi, i've got myself into a bit of a pickle- I'm due to fly to Malaga tomorrow morning for the week and rent a car. HOWEVER, I've just realised my licence has expired. Where I am due to go requires a car, so short of cancelling the whole thing can anyone make suggestions? Thanks in advance!

How far out of date is it? Possibly it won't be an issue for them as long as your passport and licence match. That's just a guess mind.
Who you renting with? You could try ringing and checking, once you have someone there saying it's ok, get their name.
You also have the risk of local police stopping you for whatever reason and noticing it's out of date.
I don't think either should be a big thing.

The hire company may not have an issue. But the insurance companies and local law enforcement will and ultimately it's the driver who's responsible for ensuring they are legally allowed drive, very few other police forces are as lack as the Gardaí for dealing with foreign drivers.

Friend of mine crashed a car and then found out his license was expired, didn't end well for him financially.
Even if they'd let you take the car, which I doubt they will, it's something to keep in mind.

Technically it's not a valid license so your insurance could be voided.

The Spanish police won't give a toss, unless you've just crashed into their car. A friend was stopped at a check for papers (like true Nazis) and his British licence was 2 years out of date. They didn't even blink.

Can you convince a friend to go with you? Might be cheaper than cancelling.

Failing a friend, maybe a boardsie?

unfortunately for you, you're going to have an issue. My wife tried to do that in Malaga, once they saw her Spanish license was out of date...no car.

If on the off chance you do get the car, it won't stand up in court if there was an accident.

Would a taxi be cheaper than cancelling the whole holiday
