Hi all! I'm posting here in the hope that you can offer me some level of advice on my current application predicament.

Having graduated with a III (third class honours degree) from Science TR071 in TCD last year, I've had great difficulty in finding employment, and have recently been considering a return to education. I'm interested in pursuing DCU's M.Sc. in Science Communication, but I have a number of concerns; firstly I don't quite meet the recommended entry requirements, and secondly my application will be somewhat past the application date.

I do have a number of things going for me, for instance I've been submitting published content to a national magazine for a number of years now, and I have in the past placed first in a nationwide competition for young journalists. In addition I am widely read in terms of popular science, for instance Ben Goldacre and Bill Bryson.

I'm wondering if there is any advice you fine people might be able to offer me. Should I make a phonecall to the course directors? Is there an interview process I may avail of? And most importantly, do I have a chance?

Any information you can provide will be much appreciated, I eagerly await your assistance. Many thanks in advance. :-)

    Hey,

From having done the course the best piece of advice I can give you is to contact Padraig Murphy who heads up the course. He's very approachable and if he can help you out with the admission process he will.

Thank you so much, that's exactly what I was hoping to hear!

D'you think I should ring him, or would I be better off e-mailing him and waiting for a reply? Given the time constraints and such...

You could try his office. Number is 01 700 7703.

Sure thing. I e-mailed him just before I saw your post, so I'll give him a chance to respond to that before I ring the office, maybe a day or so.

    Many thanks again, here's hoping!

What is a third class honours degree, I've never heard on that being given out by an institution before in Ireland?
