Does a stove need a chimney breast

I have a room which is quite cold and a stove would be a nice addition. Problem is that I don't have a fireplace or chimney breast in this room.
I pass by a house nearby and see a metal chimney pipe emerging from a gable end of the house rising above roof level.
Is this allowed or prohibited in any way? If not prohibited is it effective or is a chimney breast really beneficial?
Do I also need to put a vent in the room to create a draft?

Any advice welcome.

Insulated chimeny is a great job once installed correctly, no chimney breast is a better job than recessed as air can circulate freely around the appliance.

I locating the stove you also need to consider the constructional hearth, if you have a flammable floor.

2.16 Factory-made insulated chimneys should be:
(a) constructed and tested to meet the relevant recommendations given in BS 4543 Factorymade insulated chimneys Part 1, and
(b) installed in accordance with the manufacturers' instructions or to meet the relevant recommendations of BS 7566 Installation of factory made chimneys to BS 4543 for domestic applications, Parts 1 - 4 1992.
