ssd & 3TB HDD

    Hey all,

    Odd problem here.

My OCZ sdd went nuclear today, so I went and replaced it.

Installed Win7 & all drivers, etc, no problem on the SSD

problem is I cannot get win7, disk management, or diskpart to see my 3tb Seagate drive (appears as 230gb and wants to initialize it)

This x:/media drive was used to store games, music, folders, pics, vids and work. I set it up as a storage drive in case of a computer failure.

Any ideas, how i can get the drive to activate and keep everything the exact way it is.

Oddly, Seagate discwizard and disk management will see the drive if I use it as an external usb drive with a dock connector, but just wont see it, if I connect it to the internal drive system.

    Cheers in advance!!!

Check out the downloads for your motherboard, i think there is a limitation with using >3tb drives and there may be a utility you need. I know my Asrock board came with something for it

    http://www.asrock.com/feature/3TB/index.asp

Im not sure if this addresses your issue. If it sees it when connected as usb, and you havent filled it up completely, you could try shrinking the partition size, to see if it is recognised as a smaller drive when connected directly.

    Cheers for the reply.

I already had a 3TB working fine, just with the new SSD setup I am having trouble getting it to play ball.

Is it a slave/jumper issue? Were there any jumpers set on the old OCZ drive?

    None,

    I have an Alienware system,
ws just simply 'slot in' and go with the old SSD and HDD, no wires or set jumpers or anything.

Does the BIOS recognise the drive as 3TB?

When I got my new build I picked up a 2TB HDD and had the same problem. I had to format the drive using Windows to get it to allocate the free space.

Did so by going into disk management inside computer management in windows 7 at least.

Bios sees the drive but does not give me a size of it.

Have tried that, but will have to reinitialize the disk, good chance the new partitions will corrupt the old data
