Quick motor tax question

    Hi lads and lassies,

I have a car that has being off the road for a couple of months and putting it back on road in a few days time. I intend taxing it from start of September.

Just wondering if I can fill in the off the road declaration form, get it signed and stamped at a Garda station, stick it in an envelope with cash and stick it in the mail box of my local motor tax office. Should I expect them to post the tax disc out to me then assuming I filled in the details correctly and dropped the correct amount of cash into the envelope?

Not entirely sure if I need to physically call into the motor tax office when I am taxing a car that has being off the road or if I can drop everything into an envelope in the normal manner when a car has being off the road so hopefully somebody can set me straight here. Just don't have the time to call in these days with work....

AFAIK with off the road declarations you need to call in person but i am open to correction on that, you can send someone into the tax office with your stamped form

Don't send cash, get a postal order from the post office. You can also pay by card but that means leaving your details on the form, something i wouldn't do.
If you have the time your better off just handing it in and getting your disc straight away, it should be less busy as the first week of the month is out of the way

Thanks Corkboy10. I don't intend sending cash through the post, rather dropping the letter into the motor tax letterbox myself. Have done so before without any issues but the car was not off the road in them instances.

Don't have the time to call into motor tax office in person myself during working hours, not a hope in hell really these days or there isin't anyone I can ask really.

If somebody could give a definitive answer to my question I would be most appreciative

I was in the tax office in clondalkin last week and 'the box' said no cash. Get a postal order instead, it will cost a few euro extra but at least you have some come back

Post it in...this is the last month you can do it.

credit card details would be OK on t he form, you have more come-back than a debit card.
