PS3 Disc Reading Problems.

I pressed the eject button on the Ps3 and it flashed for about twenty seconds before the disc came out. Now the Ps3 won't read discs. The disc definitely spins. The laser was already replaced a few years ago. Do I have any other options before sending it off gain to be repaired?

Get onto the recovery menu first and use the restore file system option first before trying anything else.

To get onto the recovery menu, with the PS3 on press the power button until it beeps once and then again with a bit of a gap between each beep. Now the PS3 will be off, press the button again and this time it'll beep once and then twice quickly after this take you finger off the button and you'll be in the menu where you have to pick restore file system; when you use restore file system it'll say if it's corrupt first and if it is it'll fix it and this may solve your issue.

So, will it say its corrupted before I restore the Ps3?

Restore the file system not the PS3, this won't format or delete anything off the HDD.

It's say before it starts and if it's not corrupt it won't do anything.

Restore file system won't delete anything but RESTORE PS3 SYSTEM will so stay away from that.

    You want Restore file system

It says," An error occurred during the restore operation. The system storage must be formatted. All data on the system storage will be deleted during formatting. Do you want to format?"

    Do you have an option?

Did it say that the file system was corrupt before that?

Go for yes. Be positive, like your music is Foo Fighters. You can do it. Or save up for the PlayStation 4.

So ignoring the fact that the restore had an error it seems that you system was corrupt, this happened to me before and it stop my PS3 from seeing the discs.

    What did you do?

    What did you do?

I did what I suggested, but in my case the file system restore didn't end up with an error and it worked fine with no data lost.

One quick question. If I take out my hard drive to transfer some data. Then put that same unchanged hard drive back in, will it ask me to format it. Not connected to the error but in general?

The the HDD is encrypted so you won't be able to take anything off it that way, but if you take a HDD out and then put it back it won't ask (unless it already needed to be formated).

    You have PS+.
Back up your saves to the cloud.

Restore PS3 or file system or both.

Only inconvenience is re-downloading any games you want to play.
