The 2020 Olympics has just been awarded to Tokyo! They beat Istanbul in the final round of voting at the 125th IOC session in Buenos Aires.

Maybe Krusty can postpone his potental trip next Feb now for 6 years!

    He'll be sub 2:20 by then! ;):)

From an anti-doping standpoint it is 100% the right result. It would have been a sad day for sport had Spain or Turkey been victorious given what they have been up to.

Probably the right result for sure. I would've liked had it been Madrid, simply from the point of view of having the chance to maybe go to it, but when they got knocked out in the first round of voting, it had to be Tokyo. I think it'll be more a case of a lot of early mornings to watch the coverage, ala the World Cup back in 2002 IIRC.

I'd imagine the Japanese will put on a fairly impressive Games. The Rio Games have the potential to be a bit of a fiasco, so giving it to a very rich economy makes a lot of sense after a potentially bad taste after Rio.

They'll put some effort into winning the marathon at those games

Karate, sports climbing, skateboarding, surfing and baseball/softball are the additional proposed sports for Tokyo Olympics. IOC to take final decision in August 2016.
