Sister in law has an 2002 S40 1.8 with the head gasket going, would it worth repairing?? Any idea of an approx cost - figures of 4-700Euro been heard to get the job done.. Is there that much labour involved?

Remove the cylinder head send it away for skimming and crack testing, refit head with new gaskets, replace timing belt kit and water pump, replace coolant.

Off the top of my head to do that properly you would be talking about six hundred euro much less you would have to wonder is it being done right.

You'll also have to diagnose why it failed and fix that too
