Alcove Units

    Hi all,

I really want a gorgeous set of alcove units that would just set the room alive. The kind when you feel it, you know it was well made and expensive!
What do I need to look out for?
    - recommendations on carpenters or cabinet makers or joiners?
    - what type of materials should be used, I don't want anything flimsy.
    - is there a much more expensive cost to paint it?
    - any recommendations?

Is this something I could DIY?

Thanks for the advice in advance,

I think you need to be more clear on what you really want. You can spend as much as you like if you have the money. But spending lots of money does not necessarily mean you are getting the best. If you can specify what type of cabinet you want for the alcove. You can get a cabinetmaker to make you a very intricate cabinet out of woods like teak or mahogany. Then you can get a bookcase made from MFC Chipboard? I think you need to be clearer on your end goal.

    Hey thanks for the post.

Thats what Im looking for. Is MDT better to use if its only going to be a shelf or should I spend the money on better woods etc.

    Hey
gonna bump this cos we're planning to purchase in the next month or so.

Everyone we've spoken to has come back with MDT and spray painted to exactly the colour we want. No one really stands out as being better than the others but the price is varying by a huge amount - nearly 2000E in the difference.

Any suggestions on what the shelves should be made of or what the units itself should be made of or what is the going praise for alcove units?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Karlitob,

Just wondering if you could recommend the suppliers you were looking at - particularly the more reasonable priced ones.
