Nexen tires

I need to get 4 for my Bora (195/65 R15) and I got a quote of €60 per corner for Nexens and €75 for Firestones. I had Firestones previously and had absolutely no issues with them; good grip, lasted ages, etc. So I'm not sure if it's worth moving to Nexen for the sake of €60.

    Any thoughts?

not worth it one on the avensis when i got it. It wore out a lot faster than the hankook on the same axel and i got rid of the nexen with about 3 and a bit mm of thread left as wet weather grip wasnt good with it on the car.

AFAIK Nexens are one of the three major tyre makers in Korea, the other two are Kumho and Hankook. They seem to have a factory in China because a lot of their tyres are made there. They have a reputation for wearing out a bit quicker which is in contrast to other Chinese tyres... (hard rubber, last forever and no grip). We have a set on a Daihatsu and so far no complaints, but if you're more comfortable with Firestones you know what to do.

Your car is connected to the road via a patch of rubber no bigger than an A4 sheet of paper in TOTAL. Do you really want to scrimp on rubber and make that contact patch worse? Its not worth it.

I've a set on my car at the moment. 20,000Km on them so far and I've go zero complaints. But then again, everyones experience with tyres can be totally different, driving style, vehicle they are on, etc.

I had a set of Nexens on my Mk I Lexus GS300 a few years ago. Couldn't fault them at all.

I had a set on a jeep, Wore fairly fast and had one blow out toward the end of their life. Went to hankooks for the next set, and so far so good, but no real difference in grip, both fairly bad in the wet

Nexens are definitely not known for being a high quality tyre. They would even be in the category of "Ditchfinders".

Save a few more pennies and get good tyres that will stop you in a much shorter distance if you needed to. The difference in tyre cost would be a lot less than your difference in insurance cost increases...

True, but the biggest factor is that most people don't know what they're talking about in all honesty.
