As the title says what are the chances of schools/colleges taking on applicants this late ?

Yes, there is still a chance. Colaiste Dhulaigh for one, is advertising that they still have places available.
Last year on my course there was dropouts right at the start of the year and other people where allowed to replace them weeks into the course.

The less popular courses will still have some places.
Almost all the FE colleges have the list of courses with unfilled places on their websites.

Yes but get onto them asap, most courses are starting this week or next week. Even at that you could still start a week or two late once you were prepared to play catchup

I was at WCFE last year and we had 2 very late starters - one was in October so Id say if there is a course you really WANT to do contact the college and ask - speak to course co ordinator not the receptionist.

You would have a good chance. I had my induction on Fri and the tutor said if we knew anyone who might be interested to tell them to contact the college, as they are still accepting. Good Luck!

I got my place for a Journalism course at Colaiste Dhulaigh today. Straight after the interview, I got the offer :) . I only put in my application form in Last week too. We start Monday and looking at other interviews for other courses going on at the time in Dhulaigh. They are still looking to fill up places.

I think the PLC courses are going through a lean spell since the prices have gone up to be honest. So OP you probably have a chance at getting into something.
