Ford Focus Sony Stereo bluetooth activation

    Hi all,
I have recently purchased a Ford Focus 2010 with a built in Sony Stereo system which has bluetooth buttons on it but the bluetooth functionality seems to be inactive. I have tried to get it going but no success.

Anyone know why this is, and how to reactivate it?

Any help / tips would be very much appreciated.

It may be that the car does not have bluetooth functionality.

A friend had the same problem with a Mondeo. He was told by the Ford main dealer that the buttons on the radio stay the same regardless of functionality and it is prohibitively expensive to retro-fit bluetooth.

When I asked about fitting bluetooth to my Opel Insignia (which again has "phone" buttons but no functionality), the Opel dealer started quoting for a Parrot system and seemed taken aback when I said I wanted a proper integrated Opel unit. Said he'd look into it but he never did. A replacement headunit (radio) with bluetooth for me is about €400-500. Don't think my friend ever did anything about his.

I would suggest getting a good third-party wired system installed. I've tried the "plug into the cigarette lighter" types and they're crap.

The stereo may have the Bluetooth buttons but if it doesn't have the Bluetooth module fitted then Bluetooth cannot be enabled. It was an optional extra on the car back then. You could enquire from a Ford dealer about getting it fitted but it will more than likely be cheaper to just buy an aftermarket Bluetooth kit like a Parrot.

Is there a voice button on the controls behind the steering wheel? It will be clearly marked on the top of the remote stereo controls.
