Council Grant renewal for 4th year

My son is just starting 4th year in NUI.

1st year - normal application process, paperwork etc.
    Grant awarded

2nd year - council wrote asking if our circumstances had changed. We replied.
    Grant awarded

3rd year - council asked for a "review" application. Resubmitted paperwork.
    Grant confirmed

4th year - I've just realised we heard nothing from council this year.
    Should I be worried?

I would have expected at least a question as to changed circumstances (as in 2nd year).
    How does this work?
    The silence is worrying me!

    Ring them!

Never understand why people ask questions like this on boards without actually picking up the phone.

Anyone could reply with any kind of uninformed BS and just add to your worries.

Maybe the council predumed it was a 3 year course

    Ring them.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    How does this work?

Anybody able to answer the question asked?

Preferably without asking an irrelevant question or offering dumb advice?

    Thats a bit harsh.

What do you think boards is? Is it not a public forum? Last time i checked it wasnt staffed late at night by members of the city council.

Its not dumb advice to tell you to ring them or if you where with SUSI to check online.

How would anybody here have a definitive answer to whats happening with your personal application?

No matter what anyone says youll be ringing them first thing Monday so whats the point in being so rude when people try offer you advice?

    etc.
    ...

    Easy there fella.

I just asked "How does this work".

There's no shame if you don't know.

You could just say "I don't know",
... or even better you could just STFU. ;)

I'm not being funny or dumb or giving you irrelevant advice but the only people who can tell you how it works are the Council staff that you ring on Monday

    Cool, you don't know - that's fair enough. :)

Got any GAA tickets for the hurling final on Sunday?
I'm a buyer if you can find some ;)

More than likely they assumed your son was in a three year course and as a result they never got in touch.

You should have become concerned a month ago not now when college starts. All grant awarding authorities this year were instructed to carry out a full reassessment of applicants by the government, or so Kildare Co Co told us. (As what you described in year 3 above)

It could be quite a while your son is waiting before he will get awarded the grant this year after you ring them and receive renewal documents.

    Thanks.
Good info - if a little worrying.

Ring them most have a website also.

On another note, now if you are progressing from a level 7 award in third year to a level 8 award for 4th year (most Institutes of technology do their courses in this manner) you must apply to SUSI when going from level 7 to 8.

This will be me next year im currently entering my 3rd year at the end of which I will be awarded a level 7 degree, if I progress to 4th year for the level 8 degree I must apply through SUSI for that.

Im not looking forward to it at all.

As for the person who said everybody must be re-evaluated , this isn't true I have been approved for my grant this year without needing a full re-evaluation I just signed the standard forms saying that there hasn't been any change in circumstance etc.

Ahh I see, I was only going by what Kildare Co Co told us.
I wish it was like that for us. Getting all the documents together is a pain.

    That's good news for OP!

I know I will have to get all my documents together again for SUSI next may/june when progressing level 7 to 8. My father is self employed so it can be painful getting them everything they want.
