Track Clubs in D7/8

Does anyone know if there are any athletics clubs in D7/8 please?

I'm a very fat man in my mid thirties, but in my younger days I was mad into my running and not half bad at middle distance. Would they be interested in taking on a complete porker for the entertainment value?

I've tried running on my own but that motivation of friendly competition is missing, and missed.

Here are a list of clubs in that area

    Liffey Valley
    MSB
    Donore

I am not sure but I think a few of these have fit4life groups which encourage all levels. The majority of clubs welcome all levels of ability

Donore have a fit4life group and has good facilities too.

To be honest, I think most clubs have a fit4life section now and welcome all comers, regardless of size or ability.

D7/D8 doesn't really make clear where you are. You are right beside the Phoenix Park! Fantastic location and, as others have said, there are at least four great clubs close to you. What I know about athletics clubs is that they are all very welcoming. Don't be afraid to just show up and run a bit. You will get loads of support and guidance. I know from my own club, not one of the above, that there are numerous good masters runners who were overweight and/or smokers and who are able to run distances and times that even they find hard to believe and would not have expected when they started out.

As the Chinese proverb says "Every journey starts with the first step". Get out there now. And as the Irish proverb says "Giorraíonn beirt bóthar" - two shorten the road - so join a club. Good luck, you can do it.

Is there any running tracks other than Tallaght and Santry in Dublin?

Well there's Irishtown and there used to be UCD but don't know what the latest is with that track. My own club, Donore, have a 300 meter track, which is very useful for sessions. There are lots of other cinder tracks around the city. Others on here would be better informed than me on them. I don't know if there is any other tartan tracks.

What are clubs like for letting non members in for a session?

Tallaght track and Donore are locked up when not in use. If there was a small group using Tallaght or Donore and you asked nicely, they might let you take a lane or jump in on their session. But if the track is crowded you'd be out of luck. Irishtown you can pay into, but you won't be able to when the track is full.
Not sure about Santry or ALSAA.

For Santry track, non-members can pay to use track per session. I think it's 5 euro.
Clonliffe and Fingallians clubs use the track at designated times. I would think that they would let you join for a session, but long-term would need to join either club or pay per session.
