    Not a customer but plenty of happy customers have switched to PTSB. Currently the easiest bank to avoid fees with (once at least €1500 is lodged per month there are no fees for day to day banking AFAIK).

    - Another option!

    You can get your first 5 withdrawals each month (either in-branch or at the ATM) without paying EBS fees if you do one or both of the following:

    Lodge €1,500 to your account each month (either in one lump sum or as a series of smaller lodgements), and/or;
    You keep a minimum balance of €500 in your account each month.

    Could be a better option than PTSB for some people. Online is very basic but with FREE direct debits and standing orders certainly worth checking out.

    Interested in why someone would take this account over a PTSB one?
    first 5 tx free vs all tx free
    Apologies if Im missing something obvious.

    Just opened an account with PTSB and awaiting for everything to transfer over before closing old AIB account. Meant to actually start doing it in July but never got around to it.

    With PTSB even if you don't lodge €1500 a month, then it's only €12 a quarter.

    You could just keep a balance of €500 all the time with EBS and you then get everything FREE plus 5 free withdrawals each month by ATM or in branch (cash or cheque).

    So no need for €1,500 which you do need with PTSB. EBS dont offer a cheque book and online banking is not as good as PTSB.

    You don't need to keep €1,500 in your PTSB a/c, just lodge that amount each month. That can be one lodgement or a series of smaller lodgements. You can lodge, withdraw and re-lodge €500 three times, for example. Alternatively, set up a savings a/c and transfer €500 between your current and savings a/c three times.

    It's very easy to avoid fees with PTSB.

    Exactly, there is no reason to choose EBS over PTSB, even if you are on a very low income as you can circumvent the 1,500 EUR deposit requirement very easily via multiple in-out transactions.

    PTSB has a better product - no question about that, but the EBS minumum balance option might just suit some people that are not comfortable with online transfers or would forget to do them.
