Penalty points

    Hi,

Today I was pulled over for going 75km/hr in a 50km zone. The Garda asked me for my licence but as I didn't have it on me he told me to drop it into a station within 10 days. Before leaving the car he said 'you may receive a ticket in the post'

Has this ever happened anyone?? Is there a possibility I won't receive the fine and the points? Is there a timeframe they have to send the ticket to my address in?

    1. Yes loads of people, do a search on the forum.
    2. Yes but it depends on lots of things.
    3. If you get a notice it is usually within six weeks, again do a search and you will get lots of info.

    Just search on penalty points

75 in a 50, I'd say the chance of you getting away unscathed is pretty low I would have thought. There is a time limit but I think it's measured in terms of months, not a few days or weeks.

I think you might be thinking of a summons instead of a penalty points notice, afaik they have up to six months to issue a court summons, but penalty points is quicker as you have to be given the opportunity to pay the fine before being summonsed

I'm just a little concerned now that maybe I've been caught speeding in the past and just haven't received notification of it yet.. Surely they should issue you with notification of this asap so you reform your driving

Were you driving a French Tractor over a cliff to get them speeds? :pac:

Youd be surprised; I was pulled over for being on the phone; all my details taken and never heard anything more about it. That was about five years ago! Id say its unlikely that the OP will get away with it but who knows.

They have something like six months to process the offence. It would normally be dealt with quicker than that, but just because it doesnt arrive in the first couple of months dont assume that it wont arrive.

I was pulled for talking on phone back in January.
Unmarked fiesta, lights and sirens on. They'd been parked up at a local shop and spotted me passing.
Tore down the road after me and caught up about a kilometre away.
    I'd no tax either.
Took all my details, never heard a thing after that.
