I have this annoying problem whereby android devices will connect to the neighbour's WiFi instead of mine half the time (and I can't actually use it as it requires a web-interface password). Is there some setting or app that will force a phone or tablet to prefer a particular hotspot when it's in range?

It shouldn't connect to anything unless you tell it to even if it's an open network. Of you long press on any network the option to"forget network" should appear.

It forgets for about 30 seconds and then rediscovers it (it doesn't remember that it's supposed to forget?). It connects to open networks all the time; I've no idea if I can stop it doing that.

I dont understand how it connects without a password? Is it an open network, some versions of android can be set to autoconnect but it depends on the software version, eg touchwiz for samsungor sense for htc, tthey're all slightly diffferent

It's an open network that's not really open (think hotels' paid WiFi) - i.e. it displays without a password lock icon on the hotspot but once the phone connects to the hotspot you can't actually use the internet until you open a browser and fill in a login and password on the placeholder webpage that opens.

I found this and the suggested solution sounds a bit unintuitive but I will try it. At the same time I don't want the phone not to show up open networks when available, just not connect to them without warning. I'm using a Huawei Ascend G300 myself but it also happens with a Galaxy S, a Galaxy SII, an LG P970 and an Acer A510.

Not sure if an App is what you are after, but I have used WiFi Manager and it has many useful functions, including displaying Open Networks, etc.

I would try it to see if it has what you need.....I'm just not sure.

Tried it but couldn't find any option to prefer or ignore a connection.
