    Hey

My parter is out of work on maternity , lucky enough she earns €70k a year but is lashed on tax etc

Now we are not married and have 2 kids , is she entitled to a diff tax band because of kids and not being married

If she's a single parent she could claim the One parent allowance. On an income of 7,000 she would probably get around €200 a week from social welfare. If you're paying maintenance this will be taken into account so may come out with less. I know its not much but she shouldn't have to pay tax on her income then.

It's advice like this that makes me worry about having forums like this without pre-moderation.

The OP says his PARTNER is on maternity leave. Not ex-partner. This means it's reasonable to assume they live together (with their 2 kids).

Which renders the response above entirely wrong, since references to maintenance and one parent family are irrelevant, and there is the fact that the lady in question earns 70k, not 7k. Talking about "if" she was a single parent is a nonsense, given the context.

One of the worst replies to a question on here that I've seen in a long time :(

I agree with Barney. The OP appears to think that as he not married to his partner she is a single parent, which in one sense may be literally true, but for the purposes of the single parent tax a cohabiting person is not a single parent.

The reply seem to follow this line of logic.

    No.
