Installing granite setts

I’m thinking of putting granite setts between the piers of the entrance gate. I’ve talked to a few suppliers about prices but also on how to prepare the ground before putting them in and I’m getting different recommendations. Some are saying to dig it out to about 300mm back fill with 100mm screenings/crushed stone. Then install the setts in concrete up to the 300mm level. Others are saying dig out to 250mm then install in concrete back up and other variations on these themes. So there are a few mixed messages there and I’m wondering what would be the best approach and any help would appreciated. Thanks

This is a great site! I use it all the time for preparing external works specifications.
