Paris for New Years Eve

    Hi all

I got some fairly cheap eurostar tickets for my gf and I to travel to Paris for a few days around New Years Eve, and will be staying in a hotel next to the Opera Garnier.

I was wondering if anybody had any tips for what to do around that time? I understand there are no fireworks for New Years Eve, but instead have some sort of light show so we will probably head to that. We are there from around 12 on the 30th until late on the 02 Jan.

All tips appreciated. I guess I am mostly looking for bars that are either quirky or have some music, and some relatively inexpensive places to eat (yes I know it is probably the worst time of the year to attempt that fead :) ). Any tips for museums or other out of the ordinary things to go have a look at are most welcome.

    Thanks to all in advance.

I'd steer well clear of any groups of revellers on the streets on New Year's Eve if I was in Paris. The type of messing that goes on on NYE in Trafalgar Sq. in London would not be tolerated by the gendarmarie in Paris.

You should check out the Christmas markets during the day! Although they are not as big as in Austria/ Bavaria etc they are certainly still worth seeing for an extra Christmas feeling!

The markets sound like fun, I'll have a google of them now. Thanks.
