Hi sorry if this has been asked before but I was told today that reasonable childcare costs are taken into account when applying for medical card. I was also told that maintenance paid for your child is taken into account is this part true?

I am about to get married and am due to reapply for medical card. I very much doubt we will get it but no harm applying. If any one here is good with numbers and in the know could you tell me if we will even get dr only card.

His income will be our only income.

he gets 2400 a month we pay 130 a week rent and he pays 40 a week maintenance to his ex. travels to work about 20km each way.

    Thanks in advance

There is an online application form for it, will tell you at the end whether you qualify or not.

Sorry, don't have link, OH did ours

But I do know that Mortgage payments and travel costs for getting to work count - they allow so much per mile for your commute and that's what got it for us

The website is www.medicalcard.ie - you'll need your income and expenditure details handy, as well as your PPS number. You'll need the PPS number of any dependants you are including in your application too.

The site will help you calculate weekly amounts for things, and will also tell you at the end whether you're eligible or not, straight away.
