Claiming back Tax according to P50 - Revenue told me to wait to next year?

    Hi!

I worked in Dublin for ~6 months (january 2013 - june 2013) and have since moved back to my EU home country.

As my colleagues and previous HR recommended I filled in the P50 form and sent P45 and P50 to revenue.

I recently got this reply back from their customer service

"As you were only in Ireland for six months in the year you will have to wait till the year is over to deal with a review. You will need to provide details of your worldwide income from the time you left Ireland to the end of the year."

Yet on the P50 form it says that one is eligable to apply for refund four weeks after the employment has ceased. No other person i've talked with has had any trouble with this and I just wanted to check if anyone here has had similar issues or know any more about the subject?

Is this normal practice (to make you wait until the end of the calendar year) before making the claim?

Is there any other way to claim faster. I won't live in Ireland again and would like to close my Irish bank account as soon as possible.

Grateful for any help on this. Every experience i've had with the Irish tax offices have given me the impression of a really kafkaesque institution :(
