2010 Jaguar XF 3.0D S

I quite like the Jag XF and will be having a look at one in a week or so.
I dont know why but I had not been aware of the S version of the 3.0D but on paper at least, its not a million miles away from the bmw 535d in terms of performance. The strange thing about this is that there appears to be very little additional cost (used) for this version over the other diesels.
Anyone have any experience of these cars. Is reliability a concern. No doubt depreciation would be severe enough even if buying a 2010 car at circa €30k.
I also cant find any solid co2 figure online for a 2010 model. Perhaps its poor emissions wise.
By all accounts, for everyday driving, the jag leaves everything else behind in terms of best combination of comfort & handling. It would be the old model top spec I would be looking at.
    Any info / opinion?

The xf 3.0d S is about 50-75 (depending on model year) down on a 535d, and is also about 300kg heavier. Its no slouch but to compare it to a 535d is madness.

I prefer the Jag to the 535 tbh, its just classy and there is feck all of them around.

No it's not. It's 10bhp down on the E60 535d; I doubt the OP is considering the F10. It's also only 160kg heavier. I'd certainly consider one against a 535d - it's also got rather more cachet than the BMW IMHO; an XF catches my eye every time, an E60 certainly doesn't.

    The XF 3.0d S is 275bhp. An E60 535d is around 285bhp.

To say it's not comparable to a 535d is madness.

We had a 2010 Premium Luxury 3.0d S on fleet. Ran for 3 years and around 125,000km without any major issues. Cracking motor - Emissions are in the €750 a year tax bracket now. Don't seem to have the actual figure listed anywhere though.

Tyres were fairly expensive as the Premium Luxury was running 20" wheels as standard in 2010.

I was assuming he was considering an f10 given the years, although an e60 or an f10 was available around 2010/2011

There are less 535d in the country than there are jaguar xfs

That XF model uses the Ford AJD-V6 twin-turbo engine. Proper, hard-as-nails bit of kit that doesn't break. Personally I think the Jaaag is much more car than any BMW, has much more presence and is generally nicer to drive.

There are probably less XF 3.0d S models in the country that there are 535d's.

Not the 3.0D S, but a brilliant ad nonetheless.... :D

I think youll find there are alot more 535d on the road compared to an XF 3.0D S......

You're both wrong; fewer not less!

Personally I'd have the XF-S is destined for devil's juice. I prefer the interiors and the Jag generally handles very well. The BMW will appear much more common and if not rebadged I would expect it to attract more potential thieves.

How much is an early F10 535d compared to the Jag though. It makes the jag look like a bargain. I did mean E60 in my OP but I wouldnt be considering one of those anyway.

This would be my first diesel car. After looking a newer 170 bhp audi a6 and stuff like that, they did absolutely nothing for me. Poor ride, poor handling and with a manual box, it was a bit tiresome I felt given the diesels short rev range and how it delivers the power.
So, if Im going diesel, its going to be one that suits me so I will have a look at the XF.

XF all the way. I like the 5 Series but the XF looks stunning.

Or how about the XJ, I think the old school look is nicer and has a touch more class and elegance than the XF. XF is a sporty elegance

Just saying. Especially an XJ R

I'm not a fan of the facelift bumper tbh. But if I could afford one and the running costs I'm SURE I could look past it

I dont like the front grille but the shape is classic, it cannot be chav tastic!
Look back at an xjr from the mid 90's, and it has not changed that much

I love the shape it's classic for sure but the mesh, the chrome, the mirrors the... the.. it's nasty sorry.

Jag do elegance and luxury very well but when it comes to "understated fast" they suck (or at least did suck, they may be improving) :D

These 2 cars predated the one above if i'm not mistaken...

Currently looking for a Super V8 which is a LWB XJR with wood rather than fake carbon fibre. Rare as hen's teeth (even here in UK) but hope to get sorted for £15k max.

Yeah I much much much prefer jags with the wood trim.
Im looking for a classic jag xjr as a project car, although my budget would be less than 15k!

I always theorized that, if I lived in the UK, I would have to have a large(er) engined car given the cheap tax over there!

I have the same engine in another vehicle already (which I'll be keeping) unless I turn loopy and buy a Dodge pickup.:pac:

Yep, very little, and most of the shortcomings in the Jag seemed to be the turn-in and brakes.

RS6, but that's just being a bit pedantic! The shape and shell is still A6 really!

    Thought as much :D

I see them wheels on golfs and pre war jettas and to see them on a RS6 turns me off!

I wasn't sure that was an ebay RS badge :p

So Tossy is an M5 not a 5 Series :D

How many panels and parts does an A6 share with an RS6 ? The are not even made in the same factory.

Yes an M5 is 5 series in the same way an RS6 is part of the that same 6 platform family,we can get pedantic all night xx :D

Interesting video, only 7/10ths of a second slower on a 2:14 minute lap? Thats only 0.5% slower.

    I'd still take the jag

Ah but you still know its an A6.....some people might see the small difference's as just the newer version of that model.

It's not trolling, I'm simply stating that the RS6 is just a supped up A6 and any car that has a sports version is still a standard car just with a few mods.

But all be it a nice car I still think the OP should choose the XF ;)

Ah yes my bro is a modified car fanatic, Me being the old boy (28) in my Volvo he does not take to kindly to my abstract words describing his noisy sticker on wheels.

I even showed him this thread about the XF, pffft sure its a fancy Mondeo he said.

To many people are buying 5 series and E-class when for the same price or just a bit more you can get a nicer car like the XF or the newer S80

X-type are nice but a bit small......Every car out there today has bits of another car, No car is truly the car that the badge represents

I drove the normal 3.0d XF, and a 530d on a track, and between those 2 versions, the Jag was very much outclassed by the BMW. To be fair though, the standard 3.0d Jag does feel pretty sluggish (but the 2.2, even in 163ps is fairly sprightly ), but the S model is a totally different beast.

Was so hoping the Jag would be brilliant as it wins the beauty contest hands down, but alas, I was dissapointed. Still much better than the E320cdi........
