Looking to buy a Macbook

    Hi guys.

I am looking to buy a macbook pro and could do with your expertise :).

Ok so I am currently looking for a 2nd hand macbook pro on adverts. I do some music production with Ableton and Logic. I also use Dreamweaver, Photoshop, After Effects quite a bit. I am on a 2008 macbook that only goes up to 3gb ram. It's a nightmare I know :D.
So i wanted to ask if it would be worth it to wait for the Haswell macs and anticipate a drop in older macs i.e 2011, 2012. My budget is 800 - 850.

Ideally, I would love a better processor, lots of ram and a ssd.

Bit of a long shot but thought I ask how best i go about it.

*Mods, please delete if this in the wrong section or against forum rules.

Things like RAM and SSDs can be added afterwards with little effort and far cheaper than Apple will fit them. If someone paid a premium price to Apple for a configuration which included these items then it stands to reason they will ask for more when they sell it on compared to a standard Macbook.

My suggestion is to buy the best Processor/Screen combination you can afford and disregard the RAM/HDD. Getting it cheaper will leave more left over for the RAM and SSD you want later.

I can't see you getting an i7 quad core 15" Macbook Pro for that price though - and certainly not maxed with RAM and a decent sized SSD. If you do, I'd question it's provenance.

    Ken

I am most likely going to upgrade once the Haswell MBPs come out.
My current machine is a 2009 15" 2.53Ghz Core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM and a 500GB SSD (both added afterwards). Older than you're looking for I know, but I don't think for you budget you're going to get a 2011 model.

Best off waiting for the new Haswell based model to land. It should be here by the end of the month if not sooner.
