I'll be a post grad student in TCD this year.

In our timetable I see that the last weekend of October is scheduled as 'Directed Study: No lectures.' The following week is 'Reading week.'

Could someone please tell me the meaning of 'Directed Study'?

I have never seen this before. Will be required to travel into the University these days?

Pretty self explanatory. There are no lectures, you use the time to study yourself either inside or outside of college. I'm assuming by directed study that they give you set material to look up and learn for yourself.
