Is it mandatory for 1st years to attend this? I'd prefer to just skip the "fun activities" and just go to class on the 1st day to be honest

I'm not sure if it's mandatory but it's recommended that you attend. I suppose it's a handy way of meeting people and a tour of the college would be useful. :P

Just don't complain when you arrive late to lectures because you don't know where anything is...

It's a good idea to go on the Saturday to get a feel of the place and for some useful info. Sunday though is more just 'fun' things and can be avoided without missing anything.

They won't force you to do anything you don't want to do, so why not just go along for a day of (possibly) good craic? I doubt it would be too much of a big deal if you didn't go (on the sunday at least) but I can't really see any point in not going unless you can't go.

I found it a waste of time.

Interactive map with buildings available online. Quick sketch on a piece of paper and carry it with me :)

Saturday is worth going to for an hour or two.. worst thing that'll happen is you'll meet a few people from your course.. I'd probably give the Sunday a miss though.

I've a question about orientation tomorrow, are we all in at 9:30 in the Bailey Allen Hall, or are we in at the allocated times for our courses in different buildings (college of arts, science engineering, ect.)?

Just a bit confused cos people keep telling me it's 9:30 for everyone.

i think were all in at different times depending on the course your doing so i think its only those doing certain courses like arts in at 9.30

I was thinking that alright but past students were telling me they were all in at 9:30, regardless of course. Must be different now. Thanks for the confirmation btw

    Just found this: http://www.nuigalway.ie/student_services/documents/start_dates.html
Scroll down to questions section. Orientation is a must apparently.

They are trying to make mentors useful this year so it might be worth going for the hour or 2. For me 2 years ago it was "mandatory" but they wouldnt even notice if you werent there.

Whats the deal with the mentors? haven't gotten an email yet!

A mentor is assigned to a group of first years. We have to meet them at 12 on Sunday at a table we've been given the number of.

Try checking your spam folder and if it definitely isn't there, e-mail Una McDermott:
