Some of the world’s leaders in cloud computing will be in Ireland next month for a major conference on a new software technology system. Waterford Castle will hold the three-day conference on node.js technology.
Almost 200 web developers and technologists from around the world will be in Waterford for the node conference from September 9th-11th. Among the companies there will be WalMart, Yahoo!, Skype and Paypal.
Node.js was invented by American scientist Ryan Dahl in 2009, and one of its main backers in Ireland is Richard Roger, formerly chief architect with the TSSG research centre in Waterford and founding chief technology officer with cloud computing specialists FeedHenry.
“Node is highly efficient, using fewer servers to do the job, while catering for the development of mobile apps and the ever-widening range of smart-phones and devices,” he said.
Mr Roger is the author of a book on building mobile apps and later went on to found nearForm with Cian Ó Maidín, now employing 20 people.
The company has established Ireland as Europe’s centre for the node.js technology, a key factor in bringing the conference to Waterford. They previously organised the critically acclaimed NodeDublin conference, the first to be run in Europe.

If you see any nerdy looking people around Waterford during that time please be nice to them & tell them how great a place to invest in Waterford is.

These are serious high-flyers & if even one of them were to set up in Waterford, it'd be a huge boost to the city.

It's a major coup even getting this conference here. I hope it goes off well. There are countless examples of companies setting up operations in places because a senior executive happened to enjoy a holiday - or indeed a conference - there.

I hope every effort is made to show our city in its best light. I wonder will they have time for a gawk around the new museum, Waterford Crystal, and the Bishop's Palace? Maybe they can be brought to La Boheme and Bodega, or indeed out to Jack Meade's! Mount Congreve and Dunmore are not far away.

Seriously! We should be "leveraging our tourism assets"!

On the event's website, they tell participants that they'll be going to a mystery venue in Ireland. Waterford isn't mentioned anywhere!

It wouldn't be unconceivable for attendees to spend the entire weekend on Waterford Castle, without realising where they are or what exists around Waterford in general.

Still, fair play to the organisers for bringing the event in the first place.

One of the the events is taking place in the Theater Royal so lets hope more of the events are also around the city.

I'm sure they'll be able to read the road signs. Also they webpage encourages them to stay & enjoy the food festival happening in the city centre.

    fingers crossed for sunshine.

Ireland is known as one of the most hospitable places in the world and the Irish people take hospitality very seriously indeed. As organisers of Node Conf.eu we’re very excited at the prospect of hosting significant others at the conference.

The conference itself is being run almost 6 weeks earlier in the year than last year’s NodeDublin event. The reason for this is there is an international food festival on in the city where the conference is being held, the same week as the conference.

This means that significant others will have the opportunity to attend a track which will entail artisan cookery demos and food tastings.

The city where the conference is on is also an Ancient Viking City filled with some really cool museums and tours, so if you are interested in taking in some local history, we will be arranging curated tours during the conference time.

Tours will include handcrafted crystal glass production, and museum visits.

To compound and add to this, the county also has some really nice seaside villages, breathtaking landscapes with nature tours, train tours, great parks and playgrounds for kids.

Yeah, I find the whole "mystery location" thing a bit odd, since it wouldn't be all that hard to figure out from all the clues - and I'm sure all these clever computer lads are well able to use Google! :D

Great idea to have it at the same time as the Harvest Festival though.
