Hubby and myself were chatting ay last night, we are donating to concern for many years now, but as this recession is obviously not getting any better anytime soon, my husband wants to donate a bit closer to home.

We were thinking about Barnardos. His general idea is to donate to families that are finding it hard to feed their kids. It's to feed hungry kids, that is our aim primarily, but I understand that, I can't necessarily pick & choose etc how the donation is shared out.

    Any ideas? Thanks :-)

    The SVP?
Provides local support within the community to struggling families in a dignified manner.

I agree, the SVP does a lot of work 'on the ground' and the money (often in local supermarket voucher form) gets to the people that need it.

This link shows much each charity raises each year and how much they pay their CEO

If you are concerned that the top brass will be taking up too much of your donation money then maybe you'll find another charity that seems to get the money where it is intended

Firstly fair play on donating to any charity.
I was in the same boat as you, and swiched to jackandjill last year.

BTW if you donate 21€ pm i.e its just over 250€ per year, the charity can claim tax back on the 250, so if you are paying the higher rate of tax the total the charity gets is 350€
Thats a nice bit of donation, and 21e a month isnt a huge amount especially between the two of ye.
