I am hoping that I am posting this in the correct place.
My dad was digging bait in Dollymount in the late 60s early 70s (at a guess) and his fork hit a metal object. He dug it up and this is what he found. I reckon its a crumb catcher dustpan type of thing but it has markings on it. Can anyone shed any light on the markings please or any info on it. You can see where his fork hit it there is still dents in it.

Have you got a picture of the entire object? Not sure what it is but i would hazard a guess it's brass and from the 1940's.

No just those 3 pictures the top one is the best whole one I have. It is brass yes. The engravings are very nautical seaweed and sea anenomes! I thought the stamp was S&SB but not too sure. Ill be down with him soon and Ill take some more photos. Thank you.:)

Now i think about it i reckon it's a soap dish or part of a soap dish...just a guess though.

How big is it? Appears to be a bit big for a soap dish going by hands holding it.

Sometimes stuff washes up from wrecks after storms, might be some sort of serving platter/card tray?

See the OP said his dad was digging bait at dollymount..you can only really do that at the area round the wooden bridge or the boat club so stuff from wrecks is unlikely to end up here.

However, being from there myself i've often discovered household stuff or stuff from pubs buried in the area...either dumped deliberately or thrown overboard from the numerous small boats that used to fill the area(bottles mostly).
