Ask your GP for a valium prescription. My wife occasionally takes one before the plane, but usually just knowing that she has them with her is enough to help her relax. They ddo need to be taken a little before the plane and it mightn't be a great idea to take one if you'll be looking after children by yourself.

What reasons are you afraid of flying?

Thanks for all the help I'm actually just back today got a tablet like zanax prescription from my GP it was great found I was much more relaxed I took it about an hour before my flight and actually slept on the plane something I could have never done before so the next time I'll be flying I'll definitely use them again.

I can't really put my finger on the ,main reason I suppose its the fear of the unknown the strange noises from tje engines and the fact that ur not in control and the possibility of crashing I have read all the stastics of how safe flying is but I prob will always fear it.

I am the same, and I bought a fear of flying book.
I am not normally one for self help books but it really helped because it was all practical info.
Mine is written by a former BA captain and answers every question you could possibly have about commercial flights.
Statistics, processes the pilots and engineers go through, the bumps and noises you feel and what they are.

I have a flick through the book before I am due to fly and also bring it in my carry on luggage. Normally don't even read it onboard but find it comforting to know it's there! But I'm not as panicked now on the flight because at least I understand what's happening at all times.

I always look for a seat in the first or second row also. If I can see the Cabin crew clearly, especially during landing and take off, it really helps me stay calm. I tell myself, as long as they are calm and happy, Im safe!!

I've found my fear much more manageable since using these two tricks.

    Xanax is good too!!
