Sealing around Stove flues

    Hi all,

I have a small multi-fuel stove that has a 5in flue (4-5ft long)top exit from stove and vertically rises into older chimney stack. The connection between old and new is via a 5in to 8in reducer/expander...... the connection is letting some soot fall down onto the stove - i would like to reseal around the connection from underneath - the flue pathway rising into the chimney is narrow and not easily accessible.... has anybody come across this problem? and what material/product could be used to seal the gap?

    any advice appreciated!!!
    tw
