    Hello,

I´m having difficulty finding dimensions on the net for older, second-hand carvans. A five-door 2004 Kangoo, for example. I am looking for something pre 2005 and preferably a diesel, less than 1.6L and long enough for me to lie down in. I´m 6ft.

    I´m asking a lot, I know. Info/suggestions appreciated.

+1 I had an Astravan and I am 6ft 2 and could lie in the back was about 6 1/2 feet space in the back so you would even have a few inches to spare. Also agree the 1.7 is the better engine.

Skoda octavia. A family of four could live in the boot, let alone sleep. If you get the TDI, it is also a rocket.. Or, if you bend your knees when sleeping, pretty much any car-van with a box-back, with the Kangoos, pretty much all they are any use for is sleeping in. That or keeping hens. I've two btw, you can have them..

Being 6ft 2 I spent nights sleeping in the back of my Bravo van, if I can snooze comfortably in one an Astravan will have plenty of room :)

Thanks for the suggestions. The astravan is front runner but I am looking for a carvan of the slightly raised top variety, like the volkswagen caddy or a kangoo. My friend has a caddy and it is 1.6m in the back, far too short.

Does anyone know a car of this style where the passenger seat will go down flat?

    Citroen dispatch?

Its a 2.0 HDI but has 3 seats and lots of space for you

The dispatch would be great but the tax is too much for me.

Transit Connect without a full bulkhead, has the passenger seat that folds to give a longer load area (for your feet). Will be a 1.8 though.

If you could stomach the running costs (and appaling ride), a Pajero Sport Commercial would have more than enough room to have a good kip in the back.

Tbh I think you will get something you can lie down in but it won't come with diesel AND a small engine

    There are newer models:

    Dispatch

    Scudo
    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/07-fiat-scudo/5493776

Out of my price range unfortunately. That´s why I am looking at smaller but versatile (e.g front seat down flat).

Have you considered a hearse? Loads of room in the back.

I hadn't considered a hearse. The extra long windows are a big negative. I would be looking to sleep in the van, and I'd insulate it.

Just saw the inside of a fiat doblo 1.4l diesel parked on the street. Looked ok, I might fit with the passenger seat forward. Think I'll go see a few of these size vans.

If tax is a big issue. You could get the astra van in 1.3cdti. The reason the 1.7 was suggested is its a better engine. Not that the 1.3 is unreliable its just a small bit underpowered mainly just on take off. But this would tick all the boxes for you.

A good suggestion bpmull, but I am looking for the raised roof variety of carvan (this was what I thought ´carvan´ meant and why i didn´t specify this in my original post). Doblo, kangoo etc,. style.

Still need to find a car with a few specific details but the length and height issue is sorted. A neighbour of mine gave me a look at his commercial Kubistar 1.3l diesel. Passenger seat goes down flat leaving more than 2 metres from front to back. Roof is high enough for me to sit on a low chair. I wil get something like this over the next week or so.

Thanks very much for the suggestions.

A set of curtains and you'd be sorted. Blow up mattress and a decent sleeping bag and you'll be warm and comfy too.

Don't wear dark clothes though as you'll scare people in the mornings.

p.s. A hearse has very low motor tax too iirc.

Not much power though, a bit dead.

just to note the kubistar would be a 1.5dci engine from 2004 ish onwards. ive never heard of a 1.3 version just bare in mind it will be taxed as a 1.5. other than that there a good little van and can be got quite cheap too.
