Aldi Log Splitter Thursday Sept 5th

Evening All,

Aldi are selling a foot operated log splitter on Thursday.
Has anyone used one before; would one be worth a punt or should I simply buy the large axe and split the log the normal way.

Any thoughts appreciated.

In the time it will take to split 1 log with that,you would have 6-7 logs split with an axe and a good swing.:)

€25- 40 would buy you a decent splitting maul, great for splitting firewood and using it will warm you up no end!

Took that manual log splitter out of its box and had a look at it.

Doesnt seem like a device that would apply 1.3 tons of splitting force to the log.

I bought the large axe and splitter in Aldi........ will give them a try out next week sometime.....

that reminds me I once stuck an axe in my leg with it slipped off the log I was chopping.:o
never used one since.

The axes/sledgehammers are 5 euro cheaper in Lidl....:D

Would of spent €5 or more on car juice getting to / from my nearest Lidl so not worth it this time.......

My dad got one of these and tried it with logs from earlier in the year. Barely put a mark on them. 1.2 tons of force my eye. He has a bad back so an axe/maul is out of the question for him. Has anybody bought one of these and actually split a log with it?

I said the exact same thing to myself,when I had a look at 1 of them last week in the store.

Needless to say I didnt buy it and bought 2 garden tipper carts instead.:)

In the time it would take to split 1 log with that gizmo,you would have a whole heap of logs chopped/split for firewood with a decent axe and a decent wing.

FWIW my old man bought one of these last week, tried it and promptly returned it as not fit for purpose.

Looks like my dad will be returning his too. If the "lever" part were around 6 foot and there was some sort of gear/pulley system then I might believe it would output 1.2 tons of pressure/

Fiskars x25 or x27 is what you need lads, very very light, splits very easily and keeps a good edge for a fair amount of time (mauls/splitting axe's are supposed to be blunt but not the fiskars)
I bought one last year and have split a fair amount of firewood with it now. I know arborist a that use them and i've lent mine to people and they have bought their own since, even though its fairly expensive(€50-€80)

If I lost it or it somehow broke, I'd buy one again without hesitation, although I'd go for the x27 as the x25 that I have is just a little bit short. The last time I looked for them the only irish online shop I could find was Caulfield industrial but they are a little bit expensive. Amazon are cheaper.

Bought one of ALDI's yolks last week - taking it back today. The only log it will split for me is stove size already. - waste of time.
