Tax and NCT query

    My NCT is out a few months now but i only bookied it in the other day. Its due in 4 weeks time.
    My tax is out a month but i will be taxing it online on Thursday when i get paid.
    I have to drive to Dublin airport on Friday evening
    I am just wondering if I come across a garda checkpoint will i be covered by the NCT confirmation email which confirms my booking which I have printed off, also with the tax issue, I will have paid for the tax online but my tax disc wont arrive until early next week.
    Can the guards do me for having no tax or NCT?

    Yes they can do you but unlikely if you can show proof its all in hand.

    Print of a receipt when your taxing online and if possible one for nct or have phone with you showing nct booking confirmation text.

    Can they? Yes, of course they can since you are breaking the law.

    The likelihood of it happening is a different matter, generally a Garda would use his discretion especially when you have an NCT date (print off the tax receipt too). He may demand you to produce your motor tax within 10 days just to make sure you're not bluffing.

    PS: every time I paid motor tax on-line the disc arrived 2 days later so expect it pretty soon.

    Ya il be taxing it Thurs so itl be after the weekend before it arrives. Its Friday I have to go to Dublin. Fingers crossed so that i dont come across any guards!

    Well the chances of coming across a checkpoint itself is pretty low but you never know.
    Keep the printouts handy, they'll help demonstrate you're not out to swindle the system.

    Another thing, Traffic Wardens can issue fines for tax offences too so only park in private car parks if you stop off somewhere during normal working hrs (airport is ok I think).

    They can do you for no NCT - as you won't have it, but they won't be able to do you for no tax - as you will have it by then (it will be paid).
    Fact that you won't have a tax disc by then yet, might make you liable for fine for non-display of tax disc. This fine is 60 euro. But you can't be done for having no tax, because you will have it.
