in the dwelling house have a bit of a problem

water tank in the attic filling constantly and its not just a drip

as no taps or toilets are dripping there must be a leak under the floor somewhere, there is a lot of trunking under the house for the water to drain away through

is there such a thing as a leak detector available to try and catch such a problem ?

Have you checked to see if the water is flowing out of the overflow in the tank, if so, it could be just a faulty ballcock.

Consider getting a plumber in to run a pressure test?

Carefully check toilet/s as sometimes they can leak down the pan without making a noise as it is just a trickle so you can't easily see it either. A bit of toilet paper at the back of the bowl will check for leaks here.
    Any outside taps?
How many cold feeds coming from storage tank? Isolate one or two.

I have the exact same problem, only i have no leaks in the house itself. I have checked the 3 toilets and they are all working perfect. I switched on the heating last week and water started dripping from the eves gutter. I checked the attic and could not see any piping leading to the gutters. The overflow is perfect, water level below it. Totally baffled!

be better off shutting off the ballcock marking the level of the tank and see how much it drops by or if it drops

Why start a new thread when i have the Exact same problem as the OP. The bit about the heating was an aside!

Because people are going to be asking the op questions and others asking you questions and giving advice to you or him , things start to get confusing to read , your heating problem could be related to your issues

I have just recently bought a tracer gas leak detection unit Seba and I have been looking for certain leaks that are only leaking when the pipe is hot. So the problem is I m looking for a leak in a pipe that is not leaking when you are looking for them. The manufacturers told me you have to drain down the system to allow the gas into the heating system , so you cannot run the system without water , so the pipe cannot get hot to leak. Any ideas is greatly appreciated.

I would imagine that the gas under pressure would find its way out even when cold. Have you tried a heat camera?

Thanks for Reply I have a thermal camera but find it useless on carpet and timber floors.

I am thinking the fitting only opens under expansion and closes when cold and contracts.
We have had difficulties with digging at fitting and having to shake the pipe to make it leak.

In other situation the gas cant get past any of the remaining water in system if the leak is behind the water.

There are companies that specialise in that work. Might be time to get them in.
