trying to tune in saorview on this finlux ts7100 but getting no signal message, does it matter which country is selected and will existing mesh aerials suffice, its in midleton? house has white socket near tv, looks like a booster, its a mess of cables and there is a masthead amp as well.

What do you mean by 'mesh aerial' ? As that sounds like a upc MMDS aerial which will not work.

Is there a manual online for this STB?

You say there is a masthead amplifier,
In the box menus is there an option for an Active or Powered antenna ? If yes (and you do have a UHF aerial with a masthead amplifier) turn it On and try scanning again.

The mesh aerial could be an MMDS aerial which wouldn't be suitable for UHF Saorview. Different frequency ranges.

    MMDS aerial - https://www.satellitetv.ie/mmds_tv_aerial
UHF aerial - http://www.tvtrade.ie/tv-and-radio-aerials/uhf-aerials.html - OK for Saorview
Grid UHF Aerial - http://www.tvtrade.ie/wide-band-grid-uhf-aerial.html - OK for Saorview

cant find a manual, its aerial no 3, will try and do a pic later. does the power on work in conjunction with the amp or must the amp be disconnected and a lead run direct from box with power on?

    here are the pics

    thanks for replies

First picture yes that is a UHF aerial which likely should suffice.
The masthead amplifier is unattached to the pole, hanging loose, bad news, rain water will run into it, and destroy it.

The second picture looks like a powerunit for a masthead amp. There would be no need to enable anything on the STB if that is there and powered up to activate the masthead amplifier (if in working order).

You could try making a direct connection from the STB to the aerial (bypass mashead amplifier, likely not needed now in the area) if roof access is safe. The cable coming down might be in bad condition if rain has got into it due to the masthead amplifier coming loose and filling with rainwater and so the cable might need to be replaced

That extra cable bodged into the PSU won't be doing the signal any favours. Use a decent splitter instead.
